Dr. Nachimuthu Mahalingam, an eminent educationist and great industrialist was born on March 21st 1923 to Sri P. Nachimuthu Gounder and Smt. Rukmani Amal. Dr.N.M sought spirituality and devoted his time in deepening his religious and spiritual understand and hence popularly known as 'Arut selvar'. He completed B.Sc (Physics) in Loyola College in 1942, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in College of Engineering, Guindy in 1942 , AMIE in 1951, MIE in 1975 and FIE in 1981.
He is an agriculturist by birth but eventually he sleet as an industrialist and proved himself as an pioneer of modern Sugar industry. He played major roles nurturing in the development of agriculture, industries horticulture and human resource.
His interest in literacy is eminent. As an enthusiastic author and a scholar he has written many books in Tamil and English which develop youth's interest and knowledge towards, Gandhijis, Ramalinga Vallalar, Nation s economy and planning, promotion of communal harmony, development of agriculture, industry, educational system, infrastructure and culture. His writing always focused on improving the nations and individuala's standard of living.
As an philanthropist, he reflects the ideals of Gandhian philosophy by thought, word and action. As a man of pious living, his exemplary social contribution in numerous fields of socio-economic spectrum have benefited scores of institutions and individuals inspired by him.

Served as Member of the Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly for 15 years[ 1952 - 1967 ].
Chairman of Tamilnadu State Planning Commission for twice
Implemented Parambikulam Aliyar Irrigation Project(provides irrigation to more than 4.5 lakhs acres)
Established Institute of Asian studies in Chennai in 1981.
